The Better Story

When faced with a choice, choose the one that will make the better story.

I’m not sure who said it first, but I’ve adopted it as my own and am going to have shirts made.

We are faced with hundreds of choices each day. Some large and some small. But each choice can make a big difference in subtle ways that we may not ever even notice.

I can’t say that I don’t have regrets in life, because that would be a lie. There are a lot of things that I wish I had done differently. I wish I had been more active in school, taking more care of my body and having more concern with my health. I wish I had worked harder on sustaining the friends that I made in high school and making more of an effort with others. I wish I had decided to have a ‘true college experience’ at a four-year university. I wish I had taken more trips and had more experiences. I wish I had… I wish…

But I know that wishing doesn’t change a thing and the past has already passed.

At this point, all I can do is change the things I am doing now so that I don’t continue to have the same regrets. I don’t want to look back at my life one day and realize that there were so many things I wanted to do, but never did.

It’s time to get busy living because we are all on our way to dying. That statement may seem a bit desolate, but it’s the truth.

This is a small part of the reason I decided to do WTM this year.

Anyone who knows me can tell you that I’m a story-teller. I love to share experiences and I am happy to talk to anyone and everyone honestly.

Some of my favorite stories to share are ones that come from events that have occurred on the Tough Mudder course. Every time I am on the course I learn just a little more about myself and the things I can overcome.

Or the things I can not overcome consistently. I’m looking at you Mt. Everest.

The future is unknown, that I know for sure. But what I want more than anything is for the future to be an adventure and to lead to more great stories and experiences.

I’d love to hear a choice you made that ended with a better story!

  1. Life is short and once we acknowledge that we can start to live a richer life, taking every moment as it could be your last. Great post and message here

  2. Honestly sometimes choices were made for me which turned out to be awesome in the end. Like my last break up. I was devasted in the beginning but made the best out of it. And it turned out to be an amazing year since.

    1. A quote from my favorite TV show that talked about taking the sourest of lemons and it still being able to be made into lemonade.

I think it says a lot about how a person’s character in how they respond to hard times like that.
